“Puszta” Tour

Program Date: 5th September

Program Starting Time: 09:00

Price until 25th August: 65 EUR/ person

The word puszta (meaning empty, barren) is generally used to denote the Eastern prairies of Hungary also commonly known as the Great Plains region. This is an area of steppes, completely even terrain, where most of the country’s wheat, fruits and world-famous paprika or peppers come from. It is also known for its many horse farms and daring cowboys who oversee the vast herds that spend the entire summer in the wilderness. It is a romantic place where peasants still lead a life very much the way they have for centuries. The first stop is at Kecskemét, the so-called capital of the Great Plain. Our guests are greeted by lads clad in authentic costumes and are offered some apricot schnapps (pálinka) along with biscuits. After the greeting, an exciting display of horsemanship begins in which local cowboys (betyár) show their unique skills.

Passengers will have the chance to see also the colts, watch a breath-taking stampede by the whole herd, see unique, ancient Hungarian cattle and try horseback riding themselves. The farmstead offers dining in the open and entertainment by gypsy musicians never stops for a moment (in case of rainy weather, both a covered stand for watching the show and a roofed restaurant for lunch are available).

Then our journey takes you to an authentic Hungarian horse ranch (’Csárda’) where you are greeted with a traditional strong spirit, called Pálinka. Before the lunch (3 course lunch with drinks) you can experience a horse-drawn carriage ride and enjoy the unique horse show.

The tour ends in Budapest at your hotel. Sights on this tour: Kecskemét (guided walk), Lajosmizse, Traditional Welcome Drink, Performance of the famous horsemen, Carriage ride, 3-course Menu with wine and Gypsy music.
