About the Hungarian Curling Federation

Hungarian Curling Federation

Starting out:

The Hungarian Curling Federation was founded in 1989, with the first president being Ferenc Studniczky. Our federation has held national championships in every year, but we originally didn’t have our own ice rink, so the nationals were held in Austria.  The first rink was built in 2005, so the players have been able to play in Hungary for 13 years now.

Currently:

The current president since 2015 is Dr. Zsuzsanna Bukta.

Even though we have just one rink in the country, we have won 2 Mixed Doubles World Championships in 2013 and 2015, and also a Mixed Doubles silver medal in 2009. The best Mens and Womens results are the European A League 10th and 9th place respectively, but our goal is still to qualify for the World Championships for the first time. Our Junior Teams have also had success, the Junior Girls team coming 4th in the World Junior Championships in 2016.

Going forward:

Hungarian Curling Federation are in conversation with other ice rinks around the country to try and get curling introduced there and to expand the amount of players we have in the country, hopefully enabling us to achieve better results at the European and eventually the World Championships.

Alongside this, the Hungarian Curling Federation is planning apply as a candidate to host the World Curling Federation, World Championship’s in the future.
